Happy Holidays!

It has been a pretty busy year here at Clarip between the push at the beginning of the year around the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Facebook – Cambridge Analytica scandal followed by the passage of the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) in the summer.

There is every reason to believe that next year will be another busy one in privacy law and compliance with organizations ramping up their preparations for CCPA compliance by the end of the year and Congress advancing discussions on a new comprehensive federal privacy law.

We will also be closely watching the actions of regulators in the United States and European Union as the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and Data Protection Authorities (DPA) investigate allegations of privacy violations at major tech companies like Facebook. If 2019 is the first year of substantial GDPR fines, it could end up being a very busy year indeed.
