Etsy disclosed that it accidentally gave 2016 federal 1099 tax forms for about 1,500 sellers to a seller who requested a copy of their own tax form.
The tax form contains the tax indentification number of Etsy and the payee. With some sellers, it contains their social security number in leiu of a TIN.
The seller reported the incident and Etsy says there is no reason to believe that the information was misused. Etsy’s security team confirmed that the information was deleted from the seller’s system the same day.
Etsy is offering impacted sellers 36 months of access to AllClear Identity Repair.
