Equifax Uncovers 2.4 Million More Impacted by Breach

A press release issued by Equifax indicated that the data breach announced last year impacted approximately 2.4 million more Americans.

The individuals impacted by the recent announcement had their names and partial driver’s license information taken. The information disclosure was considered partial because it did not include home addresses or certain driver’s license information including the state, issuance date or expiration date.

The individuals were not in the population of people previously impacted. The additional names were discovered through the forensic examination of the cyberattack that resulted in the disclosure of records of about 145.5 million people. Unlike the previously identified individuals, these 2.4 million victims did not have their social security number taken.

The company has created a web portal to provide information to victims. The company has also offered free identity theft protection and credit file monitoring to all U.S. consumers whether or not they were impacted by the breach.
