Thank you for joining us for Developments in Data Privacy!

Thank you to everyone that attended our event for Philly Tech Week 2019 on Tuesday morning. We had a great turnout bright and early in the morning to talk about Developments in Data Privacy.

Last year, our discussion focused on the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Facebook-Cambridge Analytica scandal since the event was just three months ahead of the effective date for GDPR and shortly after the Facebook news.

This year, Clarip CEO Andy Sambandam and the Director of the Data Privacy Group Robert Melton provided updates on what has happened in privacy over the last year. It has been quite a busy thirteen months so there was plenty to cover over! For those that missed it, this included an interim update on the Facebook and GDPR enforcement actions as well as an extensive discussion of the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA).

If you have questions about the CCPA and missed the talk, feel free to request our CCPA white paper which covers much of the material that we discussed.

Since Clarip has been closely following developments on the state and federal level around privacy regulation, we discussed many of the top highlights from the process including the Washington Privacy Act and the discussions around the US Senate Commerce Committee’s potential federal bill.

We also briefly acknowledged the uncertainty around the update to the ePrivacy Directive which is called the ePrivacy Regulation. It has been a few months since we discussed it on the Clarip Privacy Blog here but there really has not been much to report since the multiple draft regulation updates in March.

We will also be speaking again on Friday afternoon at Drupaldelphia on Preparing for Privacy Regulation. We hope to see you there!
