SSNs for California Fish and Wildlife Workers Exposed in Breach

An employee (now ex-employee) downloaded to a personal device in December the names and Social Security numbers of employees from 2007 in the California Department of Fish and Wildlife as well as the state’s wildlife conservation board. The employee also captured personal information for vendors for the agencies between 2007 and 2010.

It is estimated that 2,300 people were working for the Department of Fish and Wildlife at that time. The breach was disclosed to employees in February after two months of investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
