Malware Captures Payment Info at Applebee’s Franchise

RMH Franchise Holdinngs, a franchisee of Applebee’s operating more than 150 restaurants, reported a breach of its point-of-sale system that impacted most of its locations between December 6, 2017 and January 2, 2018.

Unauthorized software placed on the system was designed to capture the information of payment cards. The company believes that guest names, credit or debit card numbers, card verification codes and expiration dates were captured.

The franchisee has locations in 16 states including Alabama, Arizona, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Missouri, Mississippi, Nebraska, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Texas and Wyoming.

The precise number of cards compromised was not disclosed by RMH Franchise Holdings. The information of people who paid online or at self-pay tabletop terminals was not compromised.
