Developments in Data Privacy – Clarip on Tuesday
Join us for Developments in Data Privacy at the Clarip office on Tuesday, May 7th from 8:30 AM to 10 AM on the 25th Floor of 2001 Market Street in Center City.
There are still a few tickets for the event available online at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/developments-in-data-privacy-tickets-60598692320
We have more than 30 people registered already so join us if you can! Here is the description:
There are many potential pitfalls in data privacy right now and the landscape of privacy protections is rapidly changing. The European Union has issued fines under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) will go into effect next year. Internet of Things (IoT) devices and other developing technologies can pose substantial privacy challenges. Many other states and Congress are considering potential regulations in this area.
The panel will provide entrepreneurs, tech professionals and others with an introduction to these privacy law developments as well as information on best practices and challenges.
Preparing for Privacy Regulation – Drupaldelphia on Friday
We will also be speaking during Session 5 of Drupaldelphia on Friday, May 10th at 3:45 PM. Drupaldelphia is an annual camp held in Philadelphia for the open source content management platform Drupal. The event attracts developers, site-builders, content administrators, designers and others interested in Drupal. It will be hosted at Hussian College of Art/Harrisburg University at 1500 Spring Garden Street in Philadelphia. The opening remarks happen around 8:45 AM and there is a full schedule of sessions until around 5 PM.
Our session is titled Preparing for Privacy Regulation. Here is the long description:
Last year’s implementation of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in the European Union has spurred a debate across the United States at both the federal and state level about how to improve data privacy practices through government regulation. Preparations for the California Consumer Privacy Act (which goes into effect at the beginning of next year) are underway at many businesses and it appears to be only a matter of time before other governments take action.
At the same time, consumers are demanding more from businesses and websites on privacy, and many businesses are making changes to adapt. Apple, for example, is seeking to build a competitive advantage against other large tech companies through its privacy practices. Even Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has announced plans for a product that better protects privacy.
How does this translate to the average business owner or website developer?
This session will cover:
– Privacy as a Competitive Advantage
– Highlights of the GDPR and CCPA
– How to Handle the Evolving Regulatory Landscape
– Best Practices for Improving Data Privacy
– Typical Problems Organizations Encounter
– Software Solutions
We hope to see you at one of these two events or feel free to say hello if you see us elsewhere – such as the PTW19 Signature Event next Friday evening, May 10th!
