Malware Breach infects Partners Healthcare
Partners Healthcare, the nonprofit health system including Massachusetts General and Brigham and Women’s hospitals, said that a breach of its computer network by malware may have exposed patient information for up to 2,600. The Electronic Medical Record (EMR) sysem was not impacted.
The May 2017 breach may have exposed patient names, diagnoses, procedures, medications, financial account data and Social Security numbers. Patients have received letters if they were impacted.
Partners offered free credit monitoring and insurance services to patients if their Social Security numbers were released. Partners previously disclosed two years ago that personal information of up to 3,300 patients was disclosed through a phishing scam.
